Intensive French Program
Intensive French is a literacy-based approach to the learning of French Second Language. All 4 skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing are developed in this program. The corner stone in this teaching strategy is teacher modeling while ensuring the essential components of fluency, accuracy and cognitive development are captured. It is an interactive, project-based approach.
A culture of communicating in French is established in the classroom while students focus on theme-based interests such as My Family, My Hobbies, Animals, The Environment, and Travel.
Languages seem to be different on the surface, but they have common underlying competencies. Students considered weak on entering Intensive French all learned and met with a measure of success (sometimes just oral).
The effects of the Intensive French program on student development are increased responsibility and participation; increased
self-esteem, confidence, and initiative; increased organizational skills; increased autonomy: use of peers and reference materials.
